If you're anything like me, then you're excited beyond belief about the upcoming Olympic games. It's always a magical time that brings up great memories. I've been lucky enough to view the Olympic torch three times in my life and have attended one event.The first time I viewed the torch was in 1984 when I was an honorary Dodger Bat girl. I was lucky enough to win a Crest toothpaste contest my mother entered me in. I was able to meet the 1984 Los Angeles Dodgers, get a tour of the stadium, get a real Dodger uniform, stand on the baseball field and get my face on the "Dodger Vision" big screen. Instead of receiving a Dodger hat I was given a "Sam the Eagle" Olympic hat. Prior to the game the torch made it's way around the warning track of the baseball field.My next viewing of the torch was the next day when my mom, sister, cousins and aunts all gathered in front of East LA Community College to view the torch running by. We were all dressed in red, white and blue and waving our American flags wildly in the hot summer heat.I remember going to the LA Memorial Coliseum where they had an expo where pin collectors traders exchanged rare Olympics pins. My parents purchased me a few collector pins (I wonder where they're at?). I also remember going to my grandparents house to view the 1984 Opening Ceremonies. It was so hot and the house didn't have air conditioning so my uncles brought the huge-clunky TV to the front yard grass where there was at least a breeze.My father did not make a lot of money in those days but my parents were determined for us to attend an Olympic event. So we ended up going to a field hockey game at East LA College. I don't remember who the United States played, or even who won...that summer heat again! My sister, aunt and I kept cool by squirting each other with water bottles.My next run in with the torch was in 1996 when it was headed to Atlanta. At the time I was attending school at California State University, Chico (Chico State). I was told that an alum, who working for Coca-Cola was scheduling the torch run. The torch was coming by train in the middle of the night from up north to the LA area so she decided to give the little town of Chico a gift, a torch viewing. My roommate, friends and I left our dorm rooms and sat on the sidewalk by the train station and waited for the torch to be escorted off the train and relayed through the small college town.Oh, the Olympic memories. I know there will be many more...And now, without further ado, here is the schedule of the 2008 Beijing games.
